About FindTrivia
FindTrivia lists trivia nights and other bar games (music bingo, karaoke, game shows, murder mysteries and more) all in one place. It is free to use and free to be listed.
Independent of every trivia company
FindTrivia is not owned by, paid by or affiliated with any trivia company, host or venue. Nobody pays to be listed or to rank higher: nearby games are sorted by date and distance only, and every company's games are shown the same way.
Where listings come from
- Companies, hosts and venues send us their games through Add your trivia.
- Public schedules: trivia companies' public “where we play” pages and venues' own websites and event calendars.
- Players tell us about games they go to, and we confirm them before listing.
From public pages we take facts only: the venue, its address, the day, the time and who hosts. We do not copy descriptions, photos or reviews, and we only read sites whose robots.txt allows it. A person reviews every listing before it appears.
FindTriviaBot
FindTriviaBot is the program that does our weekly schedule checks. It identifies itself with this user agent:
FindTriviaBot/1.0 (+https://findtrivia.us/about#bot)
- It reads robots.txt first and respects it. If a page is disallowed, it is not fetched.
- It makes one polite request per schedule page per week, one page at a time.
- It only reads public pages. It never logs in, fills in forms or gets past paywalls or bot checks.
- To opt out, disallow FindTriviaBot in your robots.txt, or contact us and we will stop checking your site.
Corrections and takedowns
Spotted a mistake, or a game that has ended? Use Report a change on the venue's page, or the contact form. Venues, hosts and companies can also ask us to change or remove their listings. A person handles every request and updates or removes the listing as quickly as we can. The terms explain the process.
Data sources and attribution
- Place data: U.S. Census Bureau; postal codes: GeoNames (CC BY 4.0). Town, village and county names and locations come from the Census Bureau's Gazetteer and relationship files, and ZIP code areas from its ZCTA files, with GeoNames postal codes (CC BY 4.0) for ZIP codes those files leave out.
- Addresses are matched to map locations with the U.S. Census Bureau geocoder, occasionally helped by OpenStreetMap's Nominatim.
